The police have shot dead a 20-year-old girl in Ajejunle area of Lagos. Ada Ifeanyi had promised to celebrate Easter with her mum until her life was cut short by the police.
Speaking to CHIDICAS News Reporters on Sunday afternoon, an inconsolable Mrs. Mercy John lamented the death of her daughter, pondering over what could be the reason why the policemen attached to Trinity Police Station in Ajegunle area of Lagos brutally murdered the young girl and her friend.
The report has it that Ada and her friend Emmanuel Akomafuwa a 32-year old young man were shot by a group of six policemen on Saturday at about 7 am. A third person who was also in their company has since been identified as one Faith.
Lamenting over the death of her daughter, she said: “I spoke with her on Friday afternoon and she promised to come to see me next week so we could celebrate Easter together.
“When neighbors called me around 7 am that my daughter had been shot by the Police, I rushed down there and saw my child lying dead. A girl of just 20 years died like a chicken!
“She had a loving heart, I don’t want to miss her in life, she was friendly and didn’t like trouble.
“Did they find any prohibiting thing on her that made them fire her? If they had shot the tire, at least the car would stop.
“ I want justice for my child. Is it how the government wants to treat us?”
Our reporter had caught up with Mrs. John at Ajegunle area of Lagos, where Ada resided with her father.
Family members and friends told our reporter that some policemen on a motorcycle were chasing Ada and her friends and eventually shot at them when they failed to stop.
Ada was eventually caught by the police’s bullets and she did not survive the gunshot, while doctors are reportedly still battling to save the life of Emmanuel Akomafuwa, who sustained grievous injuries to the head from the gunshot.
The third person identified as Faith, in the car was not hurt, our reporter learned.
The parents and siblings of the slain girl wept uncontrollably as they shared memories of their last moments with their relation.
Our reporter gathered that Ada’s parents have not been living together. While her father resides in Ajegunle, her mother lives in Iyana-Iba area of Lagos.
Mrs. John said she had only one wish: To see her daughter alive again.
“I wish she could live again for me, but it’s impossible! She’s gone forever!” the bereaved mother cried as she broke down in tears.
However, Ada’s father was quiet most of the time, unlike his wife, he only said, “I love her so much. All I want is justice for the death of my daughter.”
Meanwhile, the six policemen responsible for the Saturday incident have been identified and five arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, while one, Inspector Dania Ojo, is currently on the run and have been declared wanted,
The five policemen that have been arrested in connection with Ada Ifeanyi’s murder are Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Paul Adeoye, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani and Sergeant Lucky Akigbe.
