TEXT: 1 CHRONICLES 29: 10-17
10 “Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed, be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, forever and ever.
11 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 But riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all, and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand, it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee and praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.”
Thanksgiving is an exercise that involves God the “giver” in one hand, and His children the “receivers” on the other hand. The Bible says in (John 3:27), “A man can receive nothing except it is given to him from above.”
From the passage where we took our text, King David and his people expressed profound gratitude to God. They acknowledged him as their sole source of blessings and strength and they also acknowledged the benefits of thanksgiving.
In (James 1:17), “Every good gift and every perfect is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
The benefits of thanksgiving can not be overlook because God is the sole source of our blessings, men and institutions are only means of such blessings. Always bear in mind, that nobody is the source of your blessings, except God. This indicates that we must first acknowledge God as the source of our blessings and material possessions.
Then show a heart of gratitude by giving Him honor, support his Church and the Kingdom work. We must operate with a heart of gratitude if we must receive more blessings from God.
In this post, we shall take a detailed look at the meaning and benefits of thanksgiving. And then understand the importance of showing gratitude to God for all his benefits towards us and then consider the danger of ingratitude.
WHAT IS THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving may be defined in different ways by different people depending on their objectives. However, for the purpose of this lesson, we shall view it as follows:
1 EXPRESSION OF GRATITUDE
Thanksgiving is practical and it can simply be expressed as gratitude in action. Thanksgiving is gratitude expressed or directed towards God for all the good things he has done for you. When you show gratitude, it simply means that you are pleased and glad for what the Lord has done for you. And it shows you understand the benefits of thanksgiving.

2 SHOWING OF APPRECIATION
Thanksgiving is an act of recounting the numerous good things the Lord has done for you in the past with a positive attitude of reciprocating the Lord’s good venture.
3 EXPRESSION OF FAITH
Thanksgiving is an expression of your faith and trust in God’s ability to continually make provision for all your needs. When you thank God for what he has done, you are equally asking him to do more.

4 EXPRESSION OF WORSHIP
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and enter into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him and bless his name.” (Psalms 100:4).
Thanksgiving is an indispensable component of true worship. We must enter into the house of God with an attitude of Thanksgiving. It is the starting point of our worship to God. We can hardly worship God without expressing Thanks to Him.
5 RECOGNIZING GOD AS THE PROVIDER OF YOUR BLESSINGS
Thanksgiving is an act of recognizing that God is the one behind your blessings. He is the one that gave you the power to make wealth, the ability to talk, walk, sleep, breath, etc. There are many who desire to do or enjoy these privileges like you but cannot. It does not matter whether your blessings are small or big, they all come from God, and we need to thank him (James 1:17).
